The poets are here when angels are too busy to come.
It's hard to say exactly where poets are from
But It takes an angel's eyes to see God in a beehive or a spider web
And some kind of higher spirit's pure heart to lift the heart when spirits ebb.
What is the poets' role in life? Half human being and half god, he/she
Comes in through the window at night and sit the reader on their knees.
They make hot chocolate and speak of stars, rainbows and twinkling ice.
Poets capture a breathtaking paradise and bring it personally slice by slice.
They don't see the dross of a mundane day's filler, but instead praise the
victorious.
The reader may see an ugly mud puddle and a dead dog too, they see the glorious.
They help readers realize things that they have only vaguely sensed all their days
Like if they heard the yearning of their hearts it would sound like a cello for which they'd give praise.
These artists takes 17 syllables and paint a picture so vivid no one could ever forget it.
They comfort the dying, make the ill laugh, and each day share their loving wit.
Poets loves writing whimsey to delight all the neighborhood kids.
Then in cheap paperbacks, they travel to soup kitchens and encourages those on the skids.
They are ambassadors for peace, harmony, joy and purity.
They play and laugh like children, but comfort with wise maturity.
They are wise as archangels and capricious as sprites.
They like to rhyme a lot, but they are never plain old trite.
Poets have a passion that burns from within.
They might ignore their spouse and forget their kin.
But they are lost in their mythical world of creating.
There is no point in criticizing them or berating.
They do too much good on this planet to be denounced.
(It's bad enough that their vocabularies are often mispronounced.)
They bring loveliness, peace and joy to their readers
They are both magnificent creatures and born leaders.
Poets are the artists that tenderly touch your cheek,
And make it all better when others are feeling bleak.
They rock the reader just like their Grandmas used to
When they're sitting in their rockers reading, and feeling blue.
The poets' role in life is to help people see the things they miss
An ordinary autumn day can suddenly change into one of bliss.
They re-shape experiences into dreams that have come true,
And things are seen in a different light, direct from an angel's view.
A dewdrop on the grass magically becomes an infant's tear
And seaweed found on shore becomes a mermaid's tangled hair.
A kiss is never lacking something profound, and always becomes more than just
a kiss.
And when a good poet describes a snake you can really hear the thing hiss.
Reading poetry is stepping into another dimension.
Reality is left behind when entering the artist's invention.
Divine love, transcendence and delight rule in this space.
In good hands, there's not a line or a verse untouched by grace.
